What Lies Beneath

Juried Exhibition
of New England Artists

July 31 - August 18, 2024

What’s really going on? What lies buried under other layers? How much can be revealed or obscured? Surprise us with your original interpretation of this theme, whether it's purely visual or touches on personal, cultural or political notions. What does it mean to excavate and find other possible meanings?

This is a juried regional exhibition. New England artists only. All media welcome. Submission by online jpgs through Submittable only. Maximum width 36"; work may be dimensional but must hang on wall. All work must be for sale. Minimum sale price: $600. Artist commission 50%.

$18 for one image, no limit to number of entries per artist. Juried by a committee of Bromfield Gallery artists. (Entry fees support Bromfield's programs of showcasing New England artists.) NOTE: You may enter any number of artworks, but each piece must be submitted separately.

The top 20 works by 20 different artists will be shown in person at the gallery. Bromfield is open to the public Wed-Sun, 12-5. For these 20 artworks, the artist is responsible for dropping off and picking up the work. No shipping.

Title each jpg: Artist Name, "Title."  If possible, make the longest side no longer than 1200 pixels, or 16 inches at 72 dpi. You may condense the jpgs as medium quality. Please prepare carefully; no revisions are permitted after submission is complete.

We welcome emerging and established artists regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identification, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or disabilities.

BROMFIELD GALLERY

Founded in 1975, Bromfield Gallery is one of Boston's premier artist-run galleries. With an emphasis on New England artists, Bromfield shows contemporary art in all media, including printmaking, sculpture, painting, and drawing, as well as video, installation, and new media. The gallery is located in Boston's dynamic SOWA district (South of Washington Street) in the South End, home to over two dozen contemporary art galleries and high-end furniture and design boutiques, as well as a number of fine restaurants. Nearby is the Boston Center for the Arts, which showcases visual art, cultural conferences, and independent theater companies. SOWA comes alive during each month's First Friday opening receptions.
