Moona is the first painting in my “I Object” series. It reflects my fascination with and exploration of paradox, incongruity, and duality: in our culture, in human relationships, in themedia, and in art. In “I Object”, whichever way you read it, each painting features a nude engaged with a famous work of art. Is she a participant, an object, or an observer? And we…are we viewer or voyeur? I hope the lurking undercurrents in this work will engage you. “Poignant, witty, and ironic, Duval’s paintings, prints, and sculptures explore: the beauty and vulnerability of being human, our endless obsession with sex, memory and identity, and the artist's take on women as sexual objects. Duval’s work poses provocative questions and leaves us to supply the answers.” — Beth Surdat, The Beat
