Language is a deeply human trait that we use in every aspect of our lives, though its workings are largely mysterious to us as speakers. Sarah Hulsey’s work draws attention to those unconscious patterns deep in our minds and the rich, varied beauty they contain.

Nancy Diessner: “An Atmosphere of Water and Dust”

I’ve been told that this work is strangely disorienting—that it’s not really clear where in the landscape to orient yourself. What I’m trying to do with my artwork is to take a visual record of a moment in time in nature and alter it—in Photoshop, by hand, in the printmaking process itself—to convey something larger and broader than that original place and moment, something that embraces the sky, the earth, the knowability of the past, and the uncertainty of what’s to come.
